DevSweep — Terms of Use

Plain language first, because terms nobody reads protect nobody. If anything below is unclear, the shorter version is: DevSweep deletes files you tell it to delete, you are the one deciding, and you should have a backup.
1. What DevSweep is
DevSweep finds developer caches, build output and project artifacts on your Mac, explains what each one is, and removes the ones you select. It runs locally. It does not upload your files, paths or scan results.
2. Licence
When you buy DevSweep you get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use it on the number of Macs you paid for — one, unless you bought more. An organisation buying above the self-serve limit gets a site licence instead, which covers any Mac belonging to that organisation and counts nothing.
Activating a licence ties it to that Mac. You can move it: releasing the seat from Settings under Plan frees it immediately, so replacing a laptop, reinstalling macOS or selling a machine costs you nothing. If you cannot reach the old Mac — it was lost, or wiped without releasing — write to support@devsweep.app and the seat will be freed for you. We will not leave you locked out of something you paid for.
The licence is yours permanently for the version line you bought into; it is not a subscription and does not expire.
You may not resell it, redistribute the licence key, or present DevSweep as your own product. You may inspect and modify your own copy for your own use.
Scanning is free and always will be: the full scanner, every classification and every path, without paying. Removing anything is what the licence is for. It is not time-limited.
3. You decide what is removed
DevSweep never removes anything without you selecting it and confirming. It classifies items as Safe, Review or Protected, and it explains the evidence behind each classification — but the classification is advice, not a guarantee. You are responsible for reading it and for the decision you make.
In particular:
- Items marked Safe are deleted permanently, because a named command rebuilds them. Rebuilding may require network access and may produce different versions than you had.
- Items marked Review are moved to the Trash, where macOS can put them back. They still occupy disk space until you empty the Trash.
- Some cleanups are performed by the tool that owns the data (Docker, Homebrew and others). Those act on the tool's current state, are permanent, and DevSweep cannot undo them.
4. Back up your work
Keep a backup you trust. Time Machine, a cloned disk, a pushed Git remote — whatever you actually use. DevSweep reads Git state to avoid removing work that exists only on your Mac, and it refuses to clean a project when the evidence is not clear. That is a safeguard, not a substitute for a backup. Evidence can be incomplete, a repository can be misconfigured, and another program can change a file between the moment DevSweep measured it and the moment you confirm.
5. Your legal guarantee, and what we do not promise
If you bought as a consumer in the EU, you have a legal guarantee of conformity for at least two years from supply, under the digital content rules (Directive (EU) 2019/770, in Portugal Decreto-Lei 84/2021). DevSweep has to be what it was described as, fit for the purpose you would reasonably expect, and supplied with the updates needed to keep it in conformity. If it is not, you can ask us to fix it, and if that fails, ask for a price reduction or end the contract. Nothing below removes that: a term that excludes it does not bind you.
Beyond that guarantee, DevSweep is provided as is and as available, without further warranty, express or implied — we do not additionally promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that its size measurements, classifications or recommendations will be correct in every case.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the author of DevSweep is not liable for any loss of data, loss of work, loss of profits, business interruption, or any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of DevSweep — including data removed by a cleanup you confirmed.
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for DevSweep in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you bought DevSweep as a consumer, you keep every statutory right your local consumer law gives you, including under EU and Portuguese consumer protection law, and those rights are not affected by sections 5 and 6.
7. Updates
DevSweep can check whether a newer version exists. That check is off until you turn it on, in Settings → Updates. It downloads a signed list of releases and sends nothing about you or your machine. Updates are verified against DevSweep's signing key before they may replace the app, and nothing installs without you confirming it. See docs/PRIVACY.md for the full description.
8. Distribution and signing
DevSweep is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple, and every release publishes a SHA-256 checksum. Install it from the official channels and verify the checksum if you want to be certain of what you are running. Builds obtained anywhere else are not covered by these terms and may not be what we published.
9. Refunds
The scanner is the trial, and it is the whole scanner: unlimited scanning, every classification and every path visible, without paying and without a deadline. Nobody has to buy DevSweep to find out whether it helps, which is why the sale is final.
Why it is final. If you bought as a consumer in the EU or the UK, a distance purchase normally carries a 14-day right of withdrawal. For digital content delivered immediately that right ends once delivery has begun with your express consent — and you give that consent at checkout, which is what makes the licence available the moment you pay. Creem, as merchant of record, is who records it. So there is no refund period, and this section does not create one.
That does not touch your legal guarantee. If DevSweep is not what it was described as, section 5 still applies and is not affected by anything here.
Promotional prices, including any launch offer, are limited to the number of purchases stated where the offer is shown, and end when that number is reached.
Purchases are handled by Creem as merchant of record, and their buyer terms apply alongside these.
10. Changes to these terms
These terms may change for future versions. The version you bought continues under the terms in effect when you bought it. Material changes will be noted in the changelog.
11. Language
These terms are published in English, Portuguese, Spanish, French and German. The English text is the one they were drafted in, and it governs where a translation turns out to be unclear.
That does not take anything away from you. If you bought as a consumer, the mandatory protections of your own country's law apply whatever language you read this in — and where a term in any of these versions can be read two ways, it is read in your favour, which is what EU law requires of standard terms anyway.
